One thing, though, of all the stuff you'll learn about growing, the one element often overlooked, and the importance of which is often under-estimated, is pH. pH is very important. Invest a bit of money in a digital pH meter.

Pizza, that was a very good decision. You see, everything else, all the factors for good growing can be perfectly dialed in, but if the pH is off, then so is everything else. You saved yourself a big headache.
