How many plants would I need to be able to smoke myself out consistantly without having any extra buds?

It really depends on how much you would smoke a day. I've known alot of smokers over the years, one gal smoked an oz. every two days (a med user), and some folks would take two, three or four weeks to smoke that same amount. I will eventually have a perpetual garden going, producing 2 harvested plants a month. That covers myself and the wife fairly adequately.

It really depends. There was a time I could smoke an oz of dank in a week. That would last me A LOT longer now. If you have 3 or 5 females on a hydro or aero system you can have up to a half pound or more. It depends on the grower really.

Well at this point I seem to be pulling one day. I swear they are usually, almost finished when I yank 'em. I'm gonna' go with Pranic....at least 10 a week I'd think.

I grow 12 to 16 plants each year. I get between 3-1/2 to 6 lbs. Some yrs. more, some less. This year, out of 12 I so far am lookin' at 3.75 lbs. dry and another couple lbs. to go. Still in cure. It takes 2-3 lbs. to get me from harvest to harvest. Still have a couple oz. from last year left. I give away some as Christmas and Birthday presents. They seem to always like my present best. Hmmmm. Wonder why? This is outdoor of course. After reading here, I may dabble a bit indoors. Couple pic's of this years harvest. I'm gonna put up pics of the whole season here shortly.

That's what, about 3-1/4 lbs. 8 to 12 healthy girls oughta cover it.

Ok, lets look at it by the numbers, (hahaha, no pun intended).

1 oz a week.

Figure you will use clones from Mother plants.

Root clones for three weeks.

Then veg them for 4 weeks.

Then flower them for 10 weeks (this is an estimate at the long end)

Then harvest and dry for a week.

Then cure for 4 weeks.

That's 22 weeks from Mother plant to smokeable weed.

You'd need 22 ounces of weed.

If you used hydroponics, you could shorten that down to about 15 weeks.

Then you'd only need 15 ounces between grows.

I use the 4 unit Hydro system that's in the DIY area, and with only 4 plants, one in each tub, I grew 19 ounces in my last grow.

Build that system and put it in an area about 3.5 x 5.5 and grow yourself some hydro. You'll need a pair of 400 watt HPS for flowering and if you use switchable Halide/HPS lights, you're in business.

Let me know if you decide to use that hydro system man. It's not as hard as it sounds to build.
