glad to be part of this site many useful tips on here.

I used to grow hyrdoponically with great sussess about 14 years ago . I dont know whether I was good at it or just lucky to have a good batch of cutting to start with. my only problem was the smell of those sticky great Afgan cush x something else very smelly. it used to permiate through all my clothing and drifted 200m down the road. It was a miracle I never got busted coz it was so obvious. in the end as you turned into my road you could follow the smell that got stronger and stronger till you reached the gate then were overpowered by the smell of horse **** I pilled up in my front lawn as a last ditch attempt to disguise the smell.

Anyway due to the financial situation that my ex wife put me in, and the stresses I've been through I thought I'd have another go.

Now I am facing a whole lot of differnt circumstances as I live in the tropics.
I am planning to grow from soil also for the 1st time. partly because I cant get the formula here, but also I worry that all that running water will create an even bigger humidity problem for me.

Anyway I will have loads of questions. which I will put in the apropiate place. But here my 1st:
I've ordered Big Bomb or THC bomb. skunk and some a couple of auto flower royal queen northern lights. will they be good indoors on a hot humid country or will I face major probems with mould?
2ndly because 2 or the plant are autos, to save on buying 2 light systems do you think I can put the auto northern lights outdoors when I switch to 12 / 12 .. the days here arent much longer than 12 hrs anyway but at least. the suns bright. I darent put too many outside as this is a high risk country I live in..

cheers all look forward to some answers

Welcome to MP epicstuff . . . I like the name . . . all the nice people here will be happy to help you live up to it !!

Much like you, I'm flowering out my first indoor grow in 12 years, and it really feels great to be keepin' the girls happy again

Growing indoors, you can set the environment - you can dehumidify and control temps with AC if necessary, so conditions favorable for mold can be avoided

Can't speak to the THC bomb, but I've run skunks and NL outdoors in swampy guerilla grows with pretty hot & humid conditions, and they seemed to love it . . . not sure how similar the auto NL is with the rudy in there . . . you will prolly lose some of the yield from the autos only giving them 12 hrs of light, but sounds to me like your real concern for yield will be inside so I would probably do what you're thinking

Again, :welcome: and good luck with your grow !!

climate controls and aircons out I'm afraid , just relying on air circulation. excited about doing it all again but a little worried . without all the formulas, test kits etc I was used to back home, I'm going back to basics . I just hope I wont be dissapointed when the crop comes. I was used to getting some amazing results with all the hydro kit. had people offering well over the going rate to sell them some of it coz it was so strong , god it seems like its forever away , seeds havent even arrived yet. its like a waiting for xmas when you're a kid. I've posted a question about light; cfls vs sodiums, just waying up options , never used cfls before but it might resolve some of my worries I wont repeat myself its on another thread if anyone can ease my concerns. cheers all

I came here after my long hiatus to do the same - get back to basics, learn what the current info is and what techniques people are using and succeeding with . . . and I sure am glad I did !!

Things have changed alot since the 90's . . . now there's a better selection of genetics, equipment and nutrients . . . and this forum has a lot of top-notch growers who are growing using every strain, product and technique in the book . . . so have no fear, read read read, ask questions, and rest assured - the friendly people here will help you get back up to speed in no time.

Welcome! Another tropics member! My main worry is mold with the humidity always being crazy high most of the time which is why I'm chosing soil for my first grow till I figure out whats goin on.... My grow closet will be small 2x6 for flower and 2x4 for veg/mother place. I'm going to flower under a 600W hps.

You can get a carbon filter to eliminate virtually ALL smell here in the tropics smells loom for much much longer and they're stronger.

If you are growing indoors, you absolutely have to have ventilation. Plants require a continual supply of fresh air all the time the lights are on for proper photosynthesis. If you cannot provide adequate air exchange, you are going to have an awfully hard time growing. You also need an active exhaust system to keep temps in line. Negative pressure in your grow space and a carbon filter also takes care of those odors.

The method of growing does not make much difference overall. There is no growing method (hydro included) that makes bud better or stronger--that lies in the strain and having a dialed in grow room. I would not advise running hydro unless you have a Ph meter and a ppm meter. Correct pH is critical in a hydro system.

CFLs will run hotter, cost 2-3 times more to operate every month, probably cost more initially, and produce substantially less than HID lighting. However unless you can get an exhaust system set up, I would not even attempt a grow--natural air circulation will not cut it.

Welcome Epic.

You already have had some great help. Enjoy your time at MP, we are glad you are here.

hmmph . . . party pooper !!

LOL--I wish we didn't need all those big fans and filters and holes in our walls and floors and ceilings.....but I am just not seeing how a grow can happen in a hot humid place with no active exhaust system.....does that make me a party pooper.....?

No, not really a party pooper I guess . . . your experience makes you aware of the boundaries we hafta respect if we truly want to make our efforts worth while . . . so I guess its better to get it out in the open now, that way epic can adapt his plan to the environmental factors he will need to support . . . and avoid the disappointment . . . I guess if he got a nice bunch of fat, dense NL colas going and they got turned into mush by mold, that would really put some poop on the party :(

Hey epic, whats the nature of your limitations on using more environmental control for your grow?? We have other members here who are doing what you wanna do in tropical locations . . . maybe if you give us a little more info on your space, your budget and your situation, we can put our heads together and come up with something that will work well for you . . . cuz I'm afraid THG is probably right

Some worrying feed back for sure . space is not a problem I have a big room downstairs(25x13ft) and I've ripped out a couple of floor boards that seperate the unpstairs that has a high pitched ceiling . I plan to stick an extractor fan in the gap between the floor boards to help pull out the heat. and a couple of normal fans blowing round the room. I have an old 6ft 4 poster bed I was going to use to tent up for my initial grow area. So thats about 6 x6
Theres plenty of circulation even with doors and windows shut.

The house is a simple wood framed grass roof dwelling, real basic and not very sealed , holes and gaps everywhere; so I am very worried about smells. and not sure an extraction unit and carbon filter will help much. allthough if I can find one I'll try next time round even if it helps a little.
Neibours are a good 60ft away but I still get the odd person crawling through the bushes for a short cut across my land. I think the best solution would be to grow lots of some smelly plant maybe lavender or something to disguise the smell a little.
I dont have access to much specialized equipment here. I can get a 400 watt sodium flood light system but can't get anything bigger , local garden center sells a mix of cow sh**t , coconut husk and soil. I'll mix that with the cheap fertalizer pellets they sell . top it up with a bit of my piss and and some horse sh**t tea.
I cant even get hold of white plasic sheeting will have to use bed linen and cobble up a reflective area.
Money is a big issue, not got an income at the moment and although the tropical weather is lovely; my ex tropical woman was quite ruthless and didnt leave untill she squeeze out most of what cash I had left. so its a case of trying to optimize and not waste and hopefull produce a good enough harvest quickey to set up a bit more professionally next time round.
The seed selection I choose was aimed at large yeild and I was hoping not too pungent in odour, exeption of skunk, that was a freeby. but now it seems that might not be the case. Someone telling me big bomb is pungent . I avoided the Afgan Cush varieties for that reason.. even though that was my main experience.
Most of the seeds are feminised so my initial plan was to grow all seeds build up my crops from cuttings and try bud early possible keeping the plants small. and getting the quickest harvest. but I watched a video on scrogging last night .
I like that alot maybe I might switch plans, get a few seed matured quick, just for cash flow benifit and then just concentrate on scrogging a couple for a later bumper harvest. Any one tell me how long that takes? how long to keep the plant in veg for? and how much topping or fimming must be done , looks a long process, but very satisfying.

Anyway Its good to hear all the feed back even if it does heighten my concerns . better I think it through now than waste my cash and effort on mouldy weed or worse the attentions of the local law enforcement.
Good news is they are easily bribed but the bad new is I don't have much to bribe them with, so caution is key , It is however what keeps the price up.. so its swings and roundabouts. keep the feed back coming.
cheers all.

OK epic, this is your welcome thread . . . maybe it's best if we continue this discussion elsewhere, so that other members can continue to welcome you to the forum here . . .

Would you go to the Growroom Setup & Design section and open a new thread ?? You can just copy and paste the text of your last post into the new thread, possibly throw in a few more details to work with, then give it a title . . . how bout "Bedknobs & Broomsticks" ?? . . . :D

Thanks !! :ciao: :welcome: :joint:
