Hey Im a noob looking for advice

Hey i jus started growing my own plants thats how i discovered this site. I'v ben searching the internet fr all the information i can find on growing to make sure i can get the best results possible. I have three plants that have already sprouted, My friend whos been helping his family grow for years is also growing with me. Right know i have them under 24 hour but from what i've read that might not be the best idea so far i'v found the 18 hours is the way to go. Basically i'm just trying to ask everyone i know about growing to do the best i can. I water them with a mixture of potasium and groud up leaves from plant trimmings. My plants are just a few seeds i got my hands on i have no idea realy what they might be but im hopeing for some amazing plants. If anyone has any advice at all i'd be glad to hear it i wanna find out everything i can about growing.

Yo ChuckDaddyLongLegs,
As a long time botanist, gnome, and horticulturist, I feel that I ought to speak up and mention a little something to you. You stated that you are using ground up leaves from plant trimmings. That's a little vague chief, how about it ? where are these grounds coming from ?
Here is why I mention it. If you are using ground up mulch type leaves from outdoors than not only will you introduce every little critter you can imagine, but molds and also some trees exude chemicals that kills other plants to keep them from getting to near the tree itself. Just thought that I would toss in my $0.02

Welcome to the site.

I also use 24 hour light for veg. Plants will grow all the time they have light on them. They have no need for a dark period nor is there an proven benefit to giving them a dark period. I would also encourage you to get some good food for your plants if you expect to have "amazing plants". Like PC Duck, I also use GH nutes.

There is a world of info here. The more you know and understand about this great plant and how it grows the better chance you have of growing an amazing plant.

Wow this is awesome well i use pot leaves from indoor grown plants a friend of mine has been growing for a few months his plants are coming out very nicely we came up with the idea one day when he was helping me set up my plants.

I definetly will start a grow journal i actually keep a hand writen one on me should i think up an idea while im out somewere or hear some good advice.

You should quit with the ground up pot leaves . Number 1, he needs all his leaves on his plants. Number 2, undecomposed vegetation is not good for your plant and can cause problems.

Yea well we were using his rimmings he trimms almost all he leaves off his plants except for the largest ones closets to the lights e trimms the loers under leaves off he's says they steal nutrients for the buds and trimming them will help form more potent bud on the plant i mean his plants are nice but this is his first time actually doing it himself he usally hels his family. I do give him credit but his famil gave him the cones to start and there are plenty f things that i think he might just be kinda makeing up but he does have soe good info. what would you recommend for trimming?

I'm sorry, but your friend is wrong. You should never trim the fan leaves off the plant. The fan leaves are the little factories that transform light, nutrients, and air into THC. Trimming them will absolutely affect the plant adversely. Anyone who does not believe this only has to study plant biology to realize that it is true.

welcome to the forum, apparently you should listen to these people. lots of people on here have been growing killer bud for a loooong time, i learned the hardway on that one. listened to a friend and a grower that happens to be a cousin. wrong advise. if you get bad advise on here, more experienced growers will correct it. thats the beauty of this forum. people that give bad advise learn that they are wrong too.

watch the grow vids on the main page, great info in there. summed up into about maybe half an hour.

you probably got regular bagseed. like i did. want my advise? grow 3 or 4 at a time because most likely youll get only one female. if your lucky, it wont turn hermie. thats if you only really want one plant to be fully grown or 2. who knows maybe you would get lucky and get 3 or 4 females but its doubtfull.

So should i just not trim at all i was also told that some times te stem of a leaf will turm purple and should cut those off. Or should i just leave them all to grow freely.

I don't cut nothing. If it doesn't fall off naturally it is still there.
The cutting off of leaves is the same as if you removed your heart, lungs,ect.

hey so this is a little off topic but what is your opinion on hydroponics? I was thinkin of takeing this old fish tank i have and filling i like half way with stones. Then filling it to the top or so of the stones with water. You think that would work has long as i keep the nutrients in the water right?

It is not abnormal for the stems of leaves to turn purple. I never trim any of the leaves from my plants, those are the solar panels of the plant. The energy that they gather is important for photosynthesis and healthy growth. The only trimming I do is in vegetative stage, I top my plants using topping guides set out by the original maker of the strain, I use the FIM method.

:welcome: as many have said there is no benefit to the plant in veg for a dark period, I use Fox Farm nutes.
