Happy happy (70th) birthday to the legendary Jimi Hendrix, still inspiring to this day. Who I am sure is celebrating I-502's victory in Heaven.

My favorite song by him is Machine Gun (w/ Band Of Gypsy's) or Manic Depression...too many to list actually, but'll start there.

Yes, Machine Gun @ Fillmore New Years was totally inspired, full of emotion, plays beautifully with the feedback. One of my favorites. Voodoo Child Slight Return - the best electric guitar riff ever in my book.

No two live versions of Machine Gun or Voodoo Child (or others) are the same. He experimented all the time with sound. I've heard tons of JH live shows and they all sound different. Video I have of Newport Festival (below) is loudest guitar I ever heard.

Get a chance - read Johnny Black's book, Jimi Hendrix: The Ultimate Experience. Whole book made up of quotes, interviews with people who knew Hendrix (Clapton, Faye Pidgeon, Chandler, Linda Richards, etc.). Really interesting.

Chas Chandler opened a club in Ibiza or Mallorca (I think in '68 or '69) and JH played first night and stuck his Strat into the ceiling and Chandler was not too happy. Great stories.
