I think Pet Cemetery II was worse than the original. Also, where is Night of the Living Dead original in black and white.

If by Halloween you mean scary I would say Evil Dead 1 and even 2 might be much for kids but they are two of my favorite scary movies. The Shinning rocks as well. Session 9 is a movie that does most of the scary stuff psychologically rather then gore on the screen. I would highly recommend it. Every time the tape recordings come on I get a bit creeped out.

I would add Terminator 2, though I label it sci-fi. Robert Patrick is the scariest android in any flick.
