well everyone has diffrent opinions

imo i use the paper towel method inbetween 2 plates ontop of my digi box,,or any warm surface

then after 24 hr if the seeds havnt popped i dropin in warm water ,,and if they sink within 24 hr s i now they are viable and put them back in the paper towel ,,,,,:peace:

This worked in 12 hours for me. Get a ziplock baggie and the seeds and a paper towel. Place the seeds in the paper towel and add warm water to where it will drip a little. Fold the paper towel over the seeds and place into ziplock baggie. Now put the bag in a warm, dark place for a while. In 12 to 14 hours your seeds will have sprouted 1/4 to a half inch. Ideal temps are betweem 70-80 degrees. 90 won't hurt but anything over 95 will.

1 Tips for Sprouting once planted.
1. Keep lights very close 4-5 inches from soil.
Keep that soil moist and warm! It will jump out o ther in a few hours

I do it in Grodan rockwool mini cubes & propagation trays with dome. I get 100% germination most of the time.

I too use the paper towel method, the only other thing I do is make sure my ziplock bag is in up right position so the root will grow down and straight.
This ziplock bag method has made a believer out of me,I'm getting a lot better germ rate then I was in straight soil.

Lotsa Green MOJO to you :)

daddylove. You say to keep the lights very close... Are you using HID lights or Fluorescent? Also, once the seeds have sprouted through the soil do you back off the distance of the lights?

If you use flouro's, put them about 1 inch from the seedlings. You want to keep the plants short as possable at this stage. HID's would cook them at this point. Wait about 2 weeks than put them under the HID.

ughht oh! I only have hids! Does anyone use Metal halide for seedlings?! After all the reading I have done, that's what I thought people used! Mine is 175 watt metal halide, is that ok?

It will work, but you might get a lot stretch.

i do the paper towel method as well ifin im out of paper towel ill use toilet tissue but i use a bowl on top of the plate - seed selection helps too .

i just drop mine in a cup of warm water, within 24 hours the ones that have sank have tap roots. any left floating i let soak untill the pop or don't. ususaly a if they haven't popped in 36 hours they won't pop. jmo

I put my seedlings under a 400w after germinating and they always seem to love it. I keep the hood about 12 inches away but it's cooled. Just make sure your not burning em' up and they will be fine under HID.

try Jbonez method it works great,
its fast and you dont need to handle the fragile root.
saturate your soil with ph'ed water (6.5) if using soil,
warm your soil a bit with your light, then just put the seeds in
not too deep and face them sideways. use something clear to block the intense light and keep the humidty in thats a must. later :ciao:
worked for me 5/5

I started my plants in a little thing from Wally world. I had about 98% of my seeds spouting in 24 hours. It was just a little tray witha a plastic cover that simple, it had little soil pellets that you fiil with water, add a seed and boom they spout like mad. It's called JIFFY Professional Greenhouse. It's really cool.

i am gonna try this now ! i have 2 bag seed in organic potting mix (seperate 13 ltr pots) 6 handfuls of sand /washed ..2 handfuls dolimite...and 1/2 a handful of blood/bone and 6 handfuls of my compost ...and i am gonna do 2 using ukgirls method which will go into 1/3 perlite (damn expensive ) organic potting mix and a bit of lime thrown in ! but will be watering with seasol a bit laters for my winter guerilla grow op ! gotta get the camera worked out as well ! hhmm ! take care ! thx for the new idea ! uk girl ! peace !

I have had success with both Paper Towel under a dome or Jiffy Pellets under a dome setting on top of my T5's hood, which is warm to the touch. Works perfect,,causes moisture in the dome perfectly. Once thier heads pop I put them under Daylight CFL's to Vegg untill its time to Flower.
