Flickering Light Bulb

What would cause a light bulb to start flickering? The bulb in question is a 400w HPS bulb.

hps bulbs will come on and off when they start going bad but its not a flicker, is the bulb old?

time for a new lamp. hps's start to cycle when they're gettin old. look at the inner tube, if it's black 3/4" from each end its pretty tired.

Or you may have a short or nick in the wires somewhere. Take a real close, careful look at all your wires to make sure there are no nicks.

Just an update on that, its my friends bulb and i was over there today, and it has stoped flickering, but from what has being said, it looks like there is a new bulb needed. The bulb is pretty old now and most of the inner tube was black.
