this may be a stupid question but i'll try anyway

i know that computer fans are the way to go for cheap, quite ventalation but as i was looking at them on the internet they have a set of wires coming out of them..
the question is, how do you plug this into an outlet?

Alright i'll look for something to take apart

do you know of any other things i could use rather than alarm clock,
just incase i can't find one

PC fans come in 40, 60, 80, and 120mm sizes commonly. The larger the fan blades, the more air they can blow at a lower rpm, and thus quieter they become. Properly constructed 120s are nearly silent, but the smaller ones can get a little whiny sounding.

PC fans are DC so they will require a power supply. PC fans run of 12 volts so you'll need a power supply capable of 12 volts. Typically the fans are low-current which means most 12V transformers will work. You should double check the current rating on the fans and make sure that the sum of the currents of your fans is less than the current rating of the transformer.

If your fans try and draw more current than the transformer is rated for... blown transformer .

Anyway, you can pick up a transformer cheap from household devices (things like chordless phones are commonly 12V), or you can probably buy one from a local electronics store. Every transformer should be labeled on the back with a voltage and current rating, so no matter what its original purpose, it can be re-used for your grow room.

Then, you just connect the positive wire of the transformer to both the red wires of the fans, and the two black wires of the fans to the negative wire of the transformer, plug it in the wall.

Do not try doing what was suggested. It will prolly burn your house down.

Please look at post number 3 in this thread. I've posted how to properly wire and run a PC fan.

IT WILL NOT WORK ON REGULAR HOUSE CURRENT. IF YOU DO THAT, IT COULD HURT OR KILL YOU AND POSSIBLY BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN.

Please don't mess with electricity unless you know what you're doing. Becoming dead isn't worth it.

ya man stoney's right dont do it that way i dont want you to burn you house down. if i was you i would just go buy a cheap fan at like the dollar store

Alright thank you very much

now im going to get
-the largest (thus quietest) computer fan i can find and
-a 12V transformer

i took apart an alarm clock before reading your post, stoney, and i couldnt even find where to plug it in anyway
now i think im just gonna use the hollowed out alarm clock as a stash box

Also, does anybody know a store that you can purchase a computer fan from
(like office max or home depot or something)?

Radio Shack has them all. Or any PC store.

Alright, I got a fan and an transformer from Radio Shack.

Now I have another question which im embarrased to ask..

How do I use it?
There are 2 black wires coming out of the fan and 2 sets of wires out of the adaptor (one set is 2 black wires, and the other set is 1 black and 2 yellow wire). what do i do?

Without being there to slap it on a meter to make sure, I can't tell you for sure. I would advise you to go back to Radio Shack or wherever and ask them to match it up to the transformer you also bought. They might charge you 10 bucks, but whatever. At least you'd be sure. Just tell em you're building a school project for your kid or some stuff....

You'll need some wire nuts of the right size anyway. Did you already get them?

Good luck man. Let us know how it goes, ok?

LOL read the insructions!!!

Really it will help! BUT you should get us all a picture of everything you got and we can help better.

hahah alright i'll try to figure it out (i didnt see any directions)
thanks anyway
