I have a question about root growth in the flowering stage. I'll be using 3 1/2 gal single buckets in my dwc setup during the veg stage, and was wondering if there is significant enough root growth when u start flowering, to warrant switching into 5 gal buckets when put into flower? Or should i just keep them in the smaller ones? Btw, i'll be vegging for at least 6 weeks, incorporating supercropping or lst, for an even canopy.

If you are gonna veg for that long... I would definitely go with the 5 gallon buckets.... Staying with the small ones you be having to add water every couple days....

Vegging for that long should get you some monsters.

Thanks CG. Should i just use 5 gal buckets the from start to finish then, or would it be ok, to use the smaller ones in veg? I'd like to keep the total height as short as possible in veg, cause i'll be using the same area for cloning also, and they'll be under the same flouros.

I would just start them in the 5 gal buckets and raise the clones to the height you need them.

Cool. Ok, i'll just do that. It'll probably easier anyway, not having different size buckets to switch out.

Btw, being that i'll be vegging for 6-7 weeks, growing 4 plants at a time using lst method under a 430watt digital hps, and them being a 500-600g/sq meter strain, what kind of yield can i realistically hope for in a 4x4 to 4x5 flower space? If needed i can also add some cfls as side lighting in flower.

That is not really enough light for that space--you should have a min of 5000 lumens/sq ft., you have 3437 l/sq ft in a 16 sq ft room and 2750 l/sq ft in a 20 sq ft room. IMO, the benefits of cfl side lighting is minimal. Yield is actually more a function of grams per watt of light than number of plants or room size. On the plus side, doing LST should help increase your yield. On the downside, your plants will not be getting optimum light. Concentrate on learning all you can. Providing optimum conditions along with good genetics will help insure maximum yileds. Right now it is too early to be counting your chickens...

Thank you, Goddess. I didn't realise that the 400 wasn't enough for that space. Maybe i should use 4x5 and get another 400watter to run inline with mine, just connecting both cooltubes. Do u think the extra cost of the 400 will be worth the increase in yield? I'd love to get around 3 ozs per lst'd plant.

Yes, I do believe that another 430W would make a big difference if you can control the heat. Get your grow going and concentrate on learning how to grow. We can wish for a certain yield all we want, but it will be what it will be. However, I don't think you have a prayer of getting 12 ozs on your first grow with a single 430W HPS.

I veg my clones in 20 gallon rubbermaid containers... and bloom in individual 5 gallon buckets..

I do keep my mothers in the 3.5 gallon buckets though, but that is more of a space saving thing than anything else... I built a frame out of 2x4's to sit on an old office desk and only have 4-5 feet of height on there... so the shorter buckets were pretty necessary.
