Dumb Clone Question

Allow me to ask a dumb question, while trying to keep my mother's as small as functionally possible.

When taking the clone from the mother, how many leafs do i have to leave growing on a stem so that the stem will regrow?

Also, topping for height control on the mother just like taking a clone?

I clip right above the node site so I get two shoots from there..and top just as clone yes..any pics my friend
