Funny slogan, can't remember who it belongs to:doh:. It made me wonder if anyone has anything special they put into soil. Any home made concoctions? For instance, I like to add a lil fish food to the soil. The flakes:hubba:. Wondering if anyone else messes around like me? I am a lil...eh...eccentric at times though;).

haha i like that quote BBP. And i heard
of ppl doing that putting fish in soil does
it make a difference?

I don't advise people to follow my unorthodox methods! I've read shellfish(my fish food contains fish meal, crab meal, shrimp meal, lobster digest, vegetables and vitamins) is good for your plants but don't know if fish food has something like salts that could hurt your plants but mine seem to like it. Try it and see:D.

Outside if you put a fish under your plant you will be amazed at how big it gets. Inside you will be amazed by the smell it makes:D!

i think i will try that it wont
hurt to try:D thanks for the ideas dude.

Yes. Whole fish, head and all. Make sure it's in the ground outside and not a pot outside too:).

My dog would dig it up I bet.

Did you see my pics in the GJ?

Yep...pets could be a prob with this method. So can other animals. You'd have to dig a decent sized hole. Maybe a ft and a half. Drop in the fish, fill with dirt and put your plant in the soil. I don't think your dog will dig a ft and a half deep:)...but who knows?

I sometimes add special concoctions to my soils. Sometimes I will ashes from wood that has been burned or grass or leaves. Sometimes I will add the remains of rotten logs and stumps.

so how about ather dead animals, such as bird or squirels?? ?? just a thought, i see quite a few dead birds and squirels around, so i wont be killing ant animals to make giant ganja plabts or anything :)

I don't see why not but i've never tried anything but fish.

I breed fish, and I have some of them die occasionally... LOL. They are all pretty small fish though. I just had a placostomus (sucker fish) die the other day that was about 1" in length. If I were to bury him in the same pot as my plant would it make a difference?

Interesting thread... I'll have to keep an eye on this one.

I would not put any kind of raw meat in my inside pots. I wouldn't in an outside pot either but in the ground...diff story.

the reason putting a whole fish under your plant makes it bigger is because decaying flesh releases nitrogen and phosphorous. it also releases carbon dioxide for up to 3 months at a time.
there are downfalls to this though. a dead fish can harbor bacteria and enzymes that will break down a plants root system when exposed to a certain amount over a period of time.
