Does this need a ballast?

Hi there, this is a 50 watt HPS with internal ignitor.

What I would like to know is do I need a ballast for this bulb or can it be plugged straight in to an ordinary ES fitting?

yes... i would just get a bigger light unless you cant ventilate a bigger one. all HID bulbs need a complete ballast system to run it.

thanks TOA, so if i just plugged it in to a normal fitting it wouldn't even turn on?

it has to have an extra charge to light the filiament. thats where the ignitor and the capicitor come in.


make sure what ever bulb u use that it has an matching ballast
