God knows I spend a LOT of time messing with, talking to, watering, singing to, playing my guitar for, and even reading to my plants. I love my plants! LOL! :p

Anyway, the question is, does anyone else do this for their plants? Has anyone had better results? My mother has the green thumb gene and I do not, so I am taking her advice (she does NOT know WHAT I'm growing) and she told me that it is good for the plants to feel loved and like they are cared for.

Is there any scientific evidence on this that anyone has found or does anyone else do this? Does it help?

Thanks,
Metalchick :ciao:

Well i know Prince Charles from England talks to trees lol.. maybe theres some other method behind his madness. I used to leave music playing in there but it got really annoying lol, so nope, but they still have it better than they would if they were outside! lol

Does it help them KindBud? I find that my little seedlings have been growing better since I started playing the guitar. Plus, my computer is really close by and I spend a lot of time on it, so they all get a healthy Daily Dose of Heavy Metal (which everyone should get... should be on the food pyramid right up there with fruit and veggies LOL!) but they seem to like the acustic of my guitar though.

When I read to them I try to read books like the Joy Luck Club (which I've read so many times it doesn't have binding anymore), The Horse Whisperer (currently), and historical and crime mysteries. I don't know why, but those are the books I choose for them.

I feel like a total dork writing this, because my husband always laughs at me. He's like, "why don't you read that to someone who'll listen?"... I almost tend to agree, but I figure if something can help then why not try it right?

P.S. Prince Charles is also a renowned horticulturalist and the royal kitchen travels with his herbs and veggies and fruits to cook with. He has a garden at every home and tends them all personally. He says Roses and, of course, his vegtable garden are his favorites.

i think i have read somewhere that singing to them or playing music is good ! inside in a close space , maybe the harmonic vibrations have an effect on the plant , like the soundwaves and stuff . ya know . or maybe i am just high , either way i'm picking up what you are putting down .

PEACE :D

I remember seeing MythBusters on Discovery channel, and they were testing whether music could affect plant growth by leaving radios next to them playing constantly. I think they ended up concluding that it didn't really do anything. I tried finding an actual explanation on their website to post it on here but i couldn't. Either way, if thats what you like to do, go for it :D

yep i'm a talker/singer with my plants..i yak at them about my day (hey when you deal with preschoolers all day, it's nice to talk to someone who will just listen..lol) or i'll sing whatever song happens to be in my head...i personally think it helps but i think its more the CO2 that is being exhaled around them thats helping, not the sound itself :)

Here's a small excerpt from an article I found on the subject:

"It is possible for a plant to respond to the vibrations accompanying sounds. A short bibliography at the bottom of this page gives you some references...but to almost "nothing to report." I emphasize again that while there ARE responses to sound/vibration in plants, there is NO controlled study published on the MUSICAL TASTES or MUSIC APPRECIATION by plants in reputable journals."

This is taken from: http://plantphys.info/music.html

All my plants signed a petition asking me to stop singing to them. They said it hurt their ears....hehe

Sounds like an all round legend to me metalchick!

As for music and plants, everything emits its own harmonic frequency, i mean people, plants, animals, everything.

Also obviously, harmonic frequencies and resonations click with one another, its the same in music as it is in life, two notes go together on a guitar in perfect harmoney (anyone who playes the guitar will know that when tuning using your ears, and using the harmonic scale, if you are out of tune, you get a real nasty resonating wobble) just as the harmonic frequency of one person would sit well with another... probably just another contributing factor to whether you get on with somebody / feel comfortable with somebody or not.

Well it stands to reason that the best way to get health and growth out of your plant using music, would involve some serious extensive testing to find out what frequency the molicules of the plant vibrate at, and exploit that using probably synth, and music may help due to the large range of frequencies emmited but if you knew what you were doing (none of us do right?) the correct sound for aiding your plants growth would probably be a single note continuous of the corisponding frequencies.

of course none of these frequencies are detectable as far as im aware, although im sure theres some equipment out there designed to scan frequency bands for resonance.. most likely used in the construction trade due to vibrations in materials and deteriation over time.

Anyone have any more information on this? id love to read up.. might have to session google for a half an hour lol..

All I've been doing to my plants lately is a bunch of cussing. :D
