ok i have a sativa that i've decided to grow outdoors. so i know i need to harden it off first since its been growing indoors. my question is how is the best way to go from inside to outside without cooking this plant?

Mottled sun, under the shade of a tree, works well for me...or, allow it direct light for about an hour or so the first day, and gradually increase the exposure time.
Watch for wilting or crisping of leaves.

Step in uncle

day 1, 2 hours out, rest inside, do this for 2 days
day 3, 4 hours out, rest in, do this for 2 days
day 5, out full time dappled shade as Hick says
Day 6 to harvest, outside in full sun, keep an eye on it, if its showing signs of stress, move it so it has partial shade for part of the day

Remember being outside will evaporate moisture not only from the soil but also from leaf, more watering may be needed.

thats about what i figured but i would have been mad if i had done it and killed the plant. thanks how big of a hole should i dig and fill in with good soil.. the groung here is red clay an inch under the surfice.

3 times deep and 2 wide

The above is for a plant in a pot, I presume thats what your growing them in.

well im not sure if im going to keep it in a pot or put it inb the ground. what would you suggest pot or not? this will be my first plant going outside. normally i start my outside plants outside in the ground.

Putting them in the ground will not be a problem, maybe its best to keep in pots for the time being so if the plants do show signs of being uncomfortable you can move the pot to shade until the plant is full hardy and can take full sun all the time, then put it in the ground.

ya thats what im going to do, actualy i put it out side after reading what you guys have already said. im going to leave it in the pot for another week or so depending on how well it does in the sun. then when im sure its ready put it in the ground. but in the mean time while im hardning the plant off im digging a big hole and fillin it with good soil instead of the red clay. hoping that by the time the plants ready the soil will be settled some. not sure if that will help but at least i will have a chance to water the soil a few times before i put the plant in it.

thanks for the help

so far so good. she's responding well to the change from inside to outside. she took to it better than i thought she would. so today i took her out of her pot and set her in the ground. she gets about 10 hours of direct sun light. i set it out for a few hours the first day the yesterday i put it out and forgot about her. so when i remembered i freaked out and run to check on her.. every leaf on the plant was pointing straight up. its the best she's ever looked. i can't wait for to see how big she gets. i'll take some pics later today and post them so everyone can see.. thanks for the help guys. i'll take a hit for all of you.
