my brother showed me his new christmas lights today and i was smacked with an idea..these lights come in 60 bulb strands for $7.00 and come in green, blue, red, white, purple and pink.... i told him to go back to the store and buy atleast 6 of the red strands and maybe even some blues...all one would have to do is drill a bunch of 5/16 holes in a board or even a mylar lined piece of styrofoam board and insert the lights for a super cheap DIY LED light setup..what do y'all think ???

not to sure about the output of those lights go onto ebay and check out 6500k hid kits there headlights for cars and put out a respectable ammount of lumens i figure if someone was to rig em up they'd be onto something

hey there PUFF, i like your thinkin. will def give this some major ponderin. cheaper than one 65w cfl.

i'm gonna make a veg (blue) board and try it out...i'm thinkin' 3 strands (180 LEDs) . if it works , i think it may be the cheapest thing around at $25 per 180 LEDs

I read some where that the light has to be a 1.5 watt led to work dont know if this is true but I thought i would pass it along

i'm not sure of the power rating but they are pretty bright....i'll look at the package next time i'm over there.

Only one way to find out! Heck, if you don't like the results you can still use them at Christmas.

Interesting thought. Although I'm not sure that colored glass changes the wavelength of the light coming out. Maybe it does, but I tend to think not. Unless those are all clear glass emitting light in different spectrums.

Low Pressure Sodium lights are actually the most effective and efficient lights in terms of lumens per watt- I'm guessing about 35% more efficient than HPS. However, the majority of the light they emit is in the wrong spectrum, making them essentially useless for plant growth.

I think if it was simply a matter of the color of the glass or lens, we'd all be using LPS for our grows with a red lens and/or a blue lens.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't invest a whole lot into this without a little more research. :)

$7-$21.....i may have to give up eating for a week ...lol.... the plastic is clear..the diode burns green.

Really? Now that sounds interesting. Keep us posted!

but the color of a plastic/glass lense will change the output spectrum...remember the IR lenses for the army flashlights ??

keep us posted all those lights will be on sale on Dec 27th
