Anybody using a lamp with the built in ballest. I have a 400hps all in one, and I think I would like it better than having another cord and a ballest taking up space in my closet. It just seems cleaner and more space efficent to me. I know heat can become an issue but my closet is big enough where that doesnt effect me. It seems like I dont see very many people using these.

Why doesnt everyone use these?

I forgot to mention that my lamp feels like it weighs 30-40 pounds so I guess thats one con.

The heat problem. You can disassemble it and mount the ballast seperate.
But if heats not an issue, grow on!

i have a hps with built in ballast, that like u, i use in a bigger area, so heat is not an issue. but i recently bought a "grow tent" and i found that my tent could not support the wieght of the ballast, also the heat was an issue in the smaller tent. but i agree if your space allows you to have a light with a built in ballast, why not?

Weight and heat are the only reasons. I don't believe they make a built in digital ballast, not sure though. They are very efficient on power consumption. Otherwise go for it.
