Barneys To Open Luxury Cannabis Shop-In-Shop

The dispensaries of Los Angeles are about to get some serious competition. Barneys New York, the nearly century-old luxury department store, is opening its very own legal cannabis shop-in-shop next month at its Beverly Hills flagship. Called The High End, it's billed as a "luxury cannabis and wellness concept shop," marking the first major retailer to open such a space — and likely not the last.
"Barneys has always been at the forefront of shifts in culture and lifestyle, and cannabis is no exception," said Daniella Vitale, Barneys New York CEO and President. Noting an uptick in cannabis consumption by its existing client base, the retailer pounced on the new category. The goal was to expand the exceptional product and shopping experience of Barneys to cannabis.
Realizing the vision took the help of an established player in the luxury cannabis arena. Enter Beboe, a design-focused cannabis brand launched in 2017 by former fashion executive Clement Kwan and tattoo and fine artist Scott Campbell. "I'm so thrilled that cannabis culture has come so far that it can exist and feel perfectly at home in such a prestigious context," said Campbell. "Barneys has never been shy about pushing creative boundaries in retail, and it makes perfect sense that they would be the first to support and elevate cannabis to new levels."
In addition to creating its own exclusive product for the shop, Beboe also worked with cannabis brand Sherbinskis to develop a new strain of cannabis to be sold as pre-rolled joins, as well as Défoncé on a nouveau chocolate box, featuring cannabis-infused dark chocolate. Other items created just for The High End include Lorenzi Milano horn lighters, Giobagnara leather ashtrays, glass pipes by Caleb Siemmon, and gold rolling papers from Shine. Vintage smoking accessories, CBD-infused beauty products, and jewelry (like a necklace that doubles as a grinder) round out the selection. Because selling and buying legal cannabis is still sticky business, Beboe — not Barneys — handles the transaction, delivering purchases through the delivery service Emjay.
