I found a 150w ballast thats rated for 35-150w. So, my question is can you run 35-250w on a 250 or 35-400w on a 400? I've wondered this for a while now because I have different watt bulbs just sitting around. Thanks:D.

it all depends on what kindof light it is. if your ballast is rated for a 400w bulb and u put a 250w bulb u could blow the bulb. best bet is to look up what kindof ballast it is and who makes it and see the right specs for it. i wouldnt risk having shards of glass on ur awasome ladys.

Do you know for sure this is how ballasts work or did you just read/hear this?

You can get a lower watt bulb to burn in a higher wattage ballast but it will shortin the life of the bulb and is not recomended.

What kind of ballast did you find that is rated for 35-150 watts.

It was a 150w advance ballast.

Advance makes a bunch of 150 watt ballasts, does it have a catalog # like this for example (71A81W2 )?

Well, I just saw it and didn't bookmark it or anything and now I can't find it:(. Really, I just wanted to know if I could run lower wattage bulbs on higher wattage ballasts. Another thing, whats the diff between electronic and reg ballasts, component wise? Do they both have a transformer, capacitor and igniter?

NOP, thats how they differ, electronics has no sound and way less heat, its an actual circuit board if i remember correctly, also with electronic there is no delay, ive read here the only con is they have less lifetime.. but its been a while since anyone asked that question..
If you have the choice, i would go with electronic.. :aok:
