Dallas is the epicenter for the west nile virus in the US this year. Today my city, among a few others, began aerial spraying against the cause - these deadly mosquitos. Even tho my city announced they were participating tonight, I didn't think anything of it, since we're 1/4 mile from the border of another city that wasn't spraying.

I was a little curious, since I heard these planes would be flying about 250 ft up. How often do you see a plane that close to the ground? During an outside smoke break, I heard/saw the 1st flyover. Not overhead, but not too far either, I ran inside. A few mins later another flyover, I ran outside briefly, it was probably about 10 houses west of me. Close enough. I came inside for a bit. I thought I was in the clear, so after 20 mins I went back outside. Then all of a sudden the plane came back, directly overhead ! This stuff is pretty toxic to wildlife, fish, pets, etc. Like I said, I thought I'd be spared. I probably should heed the warnings and go take a shower. :holysheep: Hope I don't get sick from the Duet (and all products in the class called permethrin),or the deadly mosquitos  I'll let you know. :p

that spray is nasty... although i do enjoy the population decreases in those blood suckers.... have a good shower...

Speaking of showers Pranic-

It just started pouring rain. OOPS! Lmfao.

mmmm.... bug spray and rain... the grass will love it lol

I hope Lizzy, my gecco, will be ok. She visits my kitchen window every night.

 sounds like free spider mite eradication be great if it would get rid of both.
I know, right..lol.

i hope lizzy will be ok too, we got tree frogs that visit our kitchen window.. and the toads in the pool, i name them when i fish them out and save them.... last few i named were angus, josey, alfred, and victor lol

i just read somewhere, they have ddt in the spray for mosquitoes in area's where the west nile virus is bad. not sure if it's true, but i know i just read it somewhere....peace

95% of the mosquitoes in the Dallas area have west nile virus. The virus is deadly to the very young, the very old and anyone with immune system problems. There's health problems if you spray, there's health problems if you don't If your job is public health, how do you decide?

Yea, we're damned if we do, damned if we don't. :(

Lots of people on both sides of the issue here. The city seems pretty divided right now.

I just say Lizzy!!!!! :D

And just like last night, the rain starts just right after spraying (they sprayed again tonight) .

It's not nice to fool mother nature!!

Keep the kiddies and pets inside today, no playing in the grass or around foliage. This stuff is residual and is DEADLY. Be safe and watch for any further announcements as they said another flyover may be needed!!

The chemical released from the planes, synthetic pyrethroid, mimics a naturally occurring substance found in chrysanthemums. The Environmental Protection Agency has said that pyrethroids do not pose a significant risk to wildlife or the environment, though no pesticide is 100 percent safe

This is what they're supposedly spraying from air, not sure the land applications they're using...

And, if the same stuff we used at the course, we wore full hazmat suits with breathers while applying.

Almost every new job site I work at have to sign a release before doing underground work. DDT, lead, arsenic, and a list of like five other things found in the soil at the most recent job. Supposed to wear tyveck suits and rubber gloves and boots when digging.... Pretty sure it will eventually catch up to all of us the contaminating of this planet we are doing.... Stay as safe as you can out there everyone.

Hey Mom, that's the same stuff that the SNS 217 has in it that worked so well on the Mites -- I saw you on the news outside smoking :) At least the Spider Mite population will diminish in Texas -- I vote for the spraying...

Peace
