Hello everyone, I am new to this site and to growing. I am getting ready for my first grow and figuring out the right lights to use. I got 2 lights today from work for free and hoped someone could tell me if these would be useful. They are both 400 watt metal halide lights, they use them for temporary lighting. This a link to the lights and would appreciate very much if someone could take a look and give me some feedback. They hang vertically but maybe i could mount it horizontally or maybe it would be okay vertical. I will prolly have to make a reflector or something but I have 2 of these, did i score?? Any help would be greattly appreciated.

Seem fine to me. You should be right as the rain with one of those;).

Its a 400 watt MH it will work fine

I see free is the way to go!

If the bulbs have a U in the # like M400U its a universal burn position bulb.

Those are great VEGGING lights. with 2 of those you can probably veg 4-8 plants easily.
as far as the hood, check on EBAY, they have some reflector hoods for good prices..

Good Luck :aok:

Thanks guys thats sounds awesome. Do you guys think this unit or ballast could be mounted horizontally? Would any reflector bolt right up or would i have to do some fabricating?

Its not the ballast that cares if its horizontal its the bulb, the bulb must be a universal burn postion bulb.

If it were me I would remove the socket and mount it in a reflector, that way you would have a remote ballast.

Look ok for free but you will have to get something to reflect the light. You will lose a lot of lateral lumens if not

hey growdude, you kind of lost me. Are you saying to remove socket and run wires from my existing ballast to new reflector.

what kind of wires to run from ballast to socket on new reflector? Is this pretty simple, also the bulb is 400w bt-37 u.v. filter lamp m59, is that ok. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Trying to get set up, im so stoked and cant wait to start.
