I'm 2 weeks into my second grow w/ half WW and half NL (from Nirvana thru the Doc)...very quick / 100% germ rate by the way. Using Scotts regular potting soil (went to a few places, couldn't find any fox farm etc). Added a small amount of veg food after about 1.5 weeks. Here's the deal:

First off my soil looks really weird. Possibly mold?

Second, the first set of true leaves (not the round ones that first pop out of the seed) started curling a bit.

Third, a couple of the seedlings have a barely noticeable white-ish coating, hard to get a pic of.

Some of them are growing nicely, some are not. A few had tips that started to yellow/brown, but I moved the light farther up (400w HPS for veg) and that seemed to have curbed it. I posted as good of detailed pics of the soil / plants as I could, hopefully someone can give me some direction.

I noticed a few small green patches when I opened the soil bags, and it was sorta stinky...did I get moldy soil? Can I save these babies?

p.s. I know I gotta get some mylar for the closet walls.

Any advice?

Looks like sand based soil, if so, it's too heavy for MJ. A good way to pick your soil is by the weight of it. Find a huge bag of soil thats light as a feather and you should have a good mix. Try Sunshine Potting Mix or ProMix potting soil. They are both very light and very high quality soil and they don't cost an arm and a leg. Transplant them to a light mix asap and you should see a huge improvement. Hope this helps:).

Yes that soil looks like it could use some perlite.
A trick I learned to test your soils consistancy is to give it a squeeze in your hand it should clump together but if you poke it, it will break apart.
