Good Day everyone. I am a newbie to growing bud, but have been farming my whole life. I've been doing outdoor hydroponics, tomatoes and peppers, for the last couple summers. I think I have a green thumb and am very particulate about all the details that go along with growing hydro. I have one question though for right now. I am new to growing indoor. I wanna try to do twelve plants. I've got everything I need except my lightsource. I am nervous about making this investment and I wanna make sure I get my bang for my buck. My grow room is 14x14 and I wanna get lights that will adequitly supply the whole room. This is strictly a room for flowering. I do my cloning and vegatative work elsewhere. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

I would recommend you head over to www.htgsupply.com and check out all the wonderful and nicely priced lighting options.. A general rule of thumb is 5,000 lumens per square foot is great and you don't wanna go below 3,000 per square foot and check out the switchable ballast option.. Metal Halides for Vegging and High Pressure Sodiums for Flowering.. Hope this helps and welcome to the forums! :D

:welcome: to MP there is a ton of info to be had here if you know where to look, i would start [thread=9396]here[/thread]. IMO for a room that size and bo howdy is it a biggun your going to need about 980000 lumen for the whole room thats about 8-10 1000W HID lamps,im not quite sure on how many lumen 1 lamp has but i think its about 100000 lumen. and if your not sure of a place to order lams from that will be inexpensive and discret i offer this-link as they have both to offer. once again :welcome: to the forum :bong:

Greetings Dr. H!

I am nervous about making this investment and I wanna make sure I get my bang for my buck. My grow room is 14x14 and I wanna get lights that will adequitly supply the whole room. This is strictly a room for flowering.

For such a large grow room, you should be be using 1000watt HPS.

By dividing the flowering room into two spaces, and if you relay the power [to the the lights] between the rooms, you only need half the number of ballasts.

Don't forget that the lights will produce a lot of heat, and will require appropriate venting.

Welcome :stoned::bong1:

HAPPY GROWIN TOM TOM

I was thinking about going with the AgroStar Ultimate 1,000 watt HPS & MH System off HTGsupply.com. I am just curious if this will be "everything" I need to get started. Also should I be paranoid about having these lights mailed to my house? I am not going to get put on some special list am I?

I am going to cut it down to four plants, and do it in a different room that is more appropriate in size. Will this be enough light for four plants.

I use a coolstar ballast with 1000w Agrostar HPS and MH light.
I grew out 11 plants in a 7x4 roughed in bathroom.

Learn from my experience. Buy the AIR FLO UPGRADED VENTED REFLECTOR
with the kit for a extra $70. Save yourself heat head ache.

and WELCOME to MP

Thanks for the advice. What makes the upgraded reflector so special?

There's different types of reflectors. Some are obviously better then others. Then theres also the addition of active cooling (where there is flanges to connect a fan to or running heatflex tubing) the active cool option will definitely help with heat - mostly indoors. Most reflectors also have a glass screen - in my opinion this is needed for indoors, if your bulb decides to blow - there won't be hot glass and things on your plants. High risks of fire.

Active cooling reflectors will run along with your ventilation system to vent hot air out of the room. This is done by passing air trough the reflector over the bulb then out an exhaust.

Remember there are different types of reflectors, everything from domes to tubes. Deciding which to go with should he based on how you are going to set up your room. Horizontal reflectors are the most efficient with hid lighting.
