I am lucky enough to get the best of both worlds. I start my veg inside and after 2-3 months move the grow outside. I am no longer able to start my plants inside so I am going to move from a fully germed seed directly outside. Possible? I have a great plot - it is a 25 ft. diameter circle wrapped with pine trees and other growth, but it still gets PLENTY of light and is close to a water source. Only problem... the soil is rocky and sandy for about 4-5 in. down. If I start my germed seeds here with a bed of soil around 4 in. deep that I bring in will the roots be able to strenghthen through the rocky/sandy mixture below it?

Can you poke your finger through a rock?

No of course you cant, well a root cant do it either :)

You have sweat ahead of you, shovel and pick, dig it 2 feet deep and 2 feet round, yup, thats what it needs, as for germing then seed straight outside, I do it all the time ;)

P.s. Yes you need to fill the hole with quality medium
