No, not really necessay, but it can be nice to 'attempt' to control the amount of seeded / unseeded you get...unless you want all seeds. You can also just give him a day in there in early flowering...say 3-4 weeks. Remove him after 12 hours or so with them and a fan going, and clean up good...
