What are the downsides to flood and drain?

So if recycling is not important then the coco sounds like a good medium. Does that mean you would flood less often than with clay pebbles? What about nute buildup in the coco as opposed to clay pebbles? I would think that if clay pebbles are inert and don't get contaminated with nute buildup...

What are the downsides to flood and drain?

Thanks everyone. If the idea is to flood and then drain immediately, when do the plants have a chance to uptake nutes if the roots are in the air the rest of the time?

What are the downsides to flood and drain?

Thanks. If using a flood and drain system that recirculates the nutes, using clay pebbles and the buckets are 10L outer bucket and 6L inner pot, how would you figure out the timings for flood and drain? Do they vary during the life of the plant or between veg and flower? Does it depend on...

Any idea what is causing this?

Thanks, everyone. The defect seems to have stopped or reduced a lot but the buds on the plant seem a bit thinner and less developed than the other plants. I still need to check the soil ph just to see if it differs from the other plants. They have all been treated the same (they're the same...

What are the downsides to flood and drain?

I am interested in trying the iws flood and drain system and it looks like a good idea but I was wondering what are the downsides, since all methods have plusses and minuses. I grow in soil pots. I tried a bubble bucket hydro grow once and it was so much work keeping the ph and the level in the...

Any idea what is causing this?

I checked the nute ph and it's 6.4. I will check the soil ph next.

Any idea what is causing this?

Thanks everyone. I can't figure it out, especially since the defective leaves are only on one branch of the plant and the other branches have normal leaves.

Any idea what is causing this?

The plant is under 600w hps and I am feeding them canna nutes at light feeding strength for soil and am growing in canna terra pro plus in 7L pots. I normally grow in 11L pots but was worried about plants getting too tall with this strain (nl5 X haze), so I used the smaller pot and also topped...

Any idea what is causing this?

One of my plants is showing this leaf defect on some upper leaves on one of its branches but not others. Any idea what it might be? Grown in soil.

    CbD cure cancer?

I read that cannabis oil can cure skin cancers when applied to the skin area. http://www.trueactivist.com/this-is-the-cannabis-oil-recipe-rick-simpson-used-to-heal-his-cancer-and-recommends-to-others/ http://www.trueactivist.com/marijuana-kills-cancer-cells-admits-us-national-cancer-institute/

Large yield differences between wet and dry buds

The condition of the plants at harvest would be different if you cut them after watering or after lights out or on, etc. I harvested a plant when it hadn't been watered in 3 days and it dried out a lot faster than one I harvested soon after watering.

    Growing small

I tried growing small and was very disappointed with how little I had after all that time and work and cost. In my opinion, try to grow large enough to have a useful amount after harvest. I have a 1m x1m x2m tent and I can grow 4 plants in there with 11L soil pots and average about 100g per...

    Calcium toxicity

Lol...Sounds like something Monsanto would try. But I remember when my brother used to breed dogs and had some champion irish setters and they kept developing all sorts of genetic defects from overbreeding and unintended consequences.

    Calcium toxicity

I think that the genetic variation among all the modern marijuana strains is likely to cause many of the anomalies that growers get among plants as well. I have 5 seeds of the same strain, in the same soil, matched to the same brand soil nutes, receiving the same growing conditions, and still...

    8x8 raised 18 ich beds

Wow, one of those plants would do me for a couple of years. How the heck do you trim all that?

    Leaf mottling

Can anyone please tell me what these leaves show? They are from the lowest leaves of young nl5 x haze plants (2 weeks since sprouting) being grown in soil in small clay pots before potting up. All 3 plants show the same effects to different extent, but the newer growth looks fine and the...

    Worried about missing resin

Well, the stuff turned out ok. The smell came back and the effect is strong and very relaxing physically and mentally. The plants were NL Blue. They still don't feel as sticky as the kush plant that grew alongside them, and I don't see as much loose trich dust after grinding some up as other...

Direct sunlight vs. indoor growing: same quality?

It's really more about intensity as much as light spectrum. With a lamp, your light falls off dramatically as you move away from the bulb, so the lower branches suffer. In sunlight, the top and bottom branches get exactly the same light and the light intensity on a typical sunny day is quite a...

    Worried about missing resin

I am still drying and curing, so I will have to wait a while to see how they came out. It also seemed like there was less trich dust left behind on the table when I was moving them around.

Planning for size control in new grow

Thanks, everyone. Does anyone think that going with 5 x 7L pots versus 4 x 11L pots in my tent would be a better choice or not? I'm thinking primarily yield and height, but also will a smaller pot size tend to introduce nutrient issues or root bounding that can then affect yield or even potency?
