    When to transplant

One more question...for now: any tips on how to transplant without the soil dropping off of the roots? I've never killed a plant doing this, but seems like asking for trouble to disturb the roots so much. Wonder if pressing down on the soil a bit to compact before decanting?

    When to transplant

I had understood that transplanting more than once is a bad idea. However, I was thinking that the slower growing sativas might be better off in an intermediate pot, move to a one gallon from the solo cup, because my local weather is very unpredictable (hot, cold, wind, fog, windy fog, etc.)...

    Started my Beans

Hi I've done the clear cup inside the opaque and it worked well enough. For drainage, i put gravel or perlite (about 1/4 " deep) on the bottom of the opaque cup (which also has drainage holes). I think the gravel works better because it gives the seedling a weighted base so its harder to knock...

    Leggy sprouts

Everyone has survived, with the tallest now about 6 inches. Since sativas take a very long time to harvest, I was wondering about potting them up to a gallon pot for a couple of months (until June or so) and then into destination pot of at least 5 gallons. My thinking is that given that early...

Building a better Alfalfa Tea with the 3LB's

Hi Wondering if this can be stored any length of time or better fresh? Would this be a good starter meal for new seedlings? Thanks

Growing Problems past the seedling stage

Hi I had this same problem numerous times but have done much better the last two years with the following regime: I soak seeds for 16 - 18 hours in water/H202 (2T 3% H2O2 to 1 pint distilled water): this may have the effect of killing any evil microbes as well as getting the seed to pop. After...

    Leggy sprouts

Thanks! I've also got a fan on them to keep them moving in the hope that the movement will strengthen the stem.

    Leggy sprouts

Sprouted a Tikal and a Honduran; both are leggy. I've got them under veg. lights. but am afraid they will topple over as has happened in the past. Also, in the past, I have back back filled with soil, laced with aloe powder to encourage rooting from the buried stalk; this has worked pretty...

Molasses, re-using soil tips please, and a thanks to Zen Lunatic

First, thank you to Zen Lunatic for the extremely informative post(s) about using molasses as a soil amendment. Now I understand a bit more. I've been adding liquid molasses for several years: in liquid form in gallon bottles, not organic., purchased on line. I water my outdoor containers...

Is tap root length important in a photo-period, outdoor, soil, container grow?

Hi: Got some more questions: Do you line the pots with anything to keep soil from leaking out? What size pots do you use? Assuming you are an outdoor grower, what type of climate do you have to deal with? Thanks for your suggestion too.

Is tap root length important in a photo-period, outdoor, soil, container grow?

In reading about air pots and other new container designs that indicate that what you really want is a slew of lateral feeder roots instead of some kind of macho tap root that just wants to get longer..... If this is so, how does one accomplish this in a container? How to prevent the tap root...

Rose geranium potpourri as a pest control

Please be careful with this. I have no idea how much is too much, especially in concentrated form. Here's some science links: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0254629910001559 ROSE GERANIUM OIL: Overview, Uses, Side Effects, Precautions, Interactions, Dosing and Reviews

Rose geranium potpourri as a pest control

Last year, I stashed potted rose geraniums and mint plants amongst my outdoor container-grown cannabis and had a remarkably pest-free season. Apparently their scent (from geraniol) is unpleasant to them. Geraniol is the active ingredient in Banish for powdery mildew. Wondering if crushing...

    Just joined from coastal California

I've been growing outdoors for 5 years in foothills of Santa Barbara County. I've had many setbacks, failures, pestilences, and mysterious catastrophes but I am very gradually learning to get around them. Last year was best ever. Having inherited some seeds, some of which turned into males...
